It is an imposing chest of drawers, the result of a team of high-ranking Lombard workers who created it around the last quarter of the 18th century, masterfully veneered and inlaid in precious wood essences. The front is punctuated by three drawers arranged on three tracks, the second of which is embellished with two circular metal handles. Artistic oval escutcheons with beading frame the metal locks, inlaid truncated pyramid feet. The sparkling bois de violette veneer arranged in a herringbone pattern forms the backdrop to the neoclassical decorations in light maple and bois de rose wood.
The rich decorative apparatus that entirely covers the chest of drawers allows us to appreciate it on all three main sides, a true triumph of wooden inlay created by specialized cabinetmakers and faithfully follows the aesthetic research of the era in which it was made, research now aimed at formal simplification of the layout to the detriment of the witty and frivolous lines of the Rococo. We are in the midst of the neoclassical era and Lombardy was one of the centers driving the spread of this new feeling with Milan at the forefront.
