Oil painting on canvas.
The large composition is rich in numerous different elements: in the center stands a large floral composition, of multiple varieties in bright colours; to the left of the flowers, resting on a Doric capital, is a parrot with bright colors contrasting with the dull ones of the birds lying on the floor below, together with some pumpkins and a pewter vase.
According to art expert dr. Gianluca Bocchi (whose expertise is attached), the work can be traced back to the production of Carlo Antonio Crespi, a painter active in Como around the mid-18th century, of the same Crespi family to which the homonymous Bolognese artist also belongs. Crespi from Como loved creating compositions with the products of the fertile Po Valley land, in the company of small animals, ceramics or wicker baskets, flower vases, all against the background of baroque or classical architectural elements. His canvases, often large in size, lead back to the world of the villas and palaces of the eighteenth-century Lombard countryside.
The painting, restored and relined, is presented in a period frame.
It comes from an important collection (Commendatore Arturo Stucchi, an entrepreneur from Como, is mentioned on the back).
