Extendable table veneered in walnut and cherry wood. Emilia-Romagna, Directory era and style, first quarter of the 19th century.
The dining table is built in solid poplar, entirely veneered in walnut and cherry essence, with a very thick plate. The two precious woods used are expertly combined in order to embellish the table through chiaroscuro contrasts, emphasized by the geometric design of the essences: the walnut, mounted "upright", is used in the bands and in the border of the top and the extensions , as well as in the square inlay in the center of the table, while the cherry wood covers the remaining parts. The supports, in a truncated pyramid shape, are built in solid cherry and characterized by walnut terminal parts, recreating the same chromatic effect present in the top and extensions.
The piece of furniture is in a perfect state of conservation, having recently undergone a state-of-the-art restoration, with a pad-applied shellac finish.
