End of the 18th century.
Side: 61,5 cm. Front width: 89 cm. Depth: 63,5 cm. Height: 87cm.
Pair of rounded corner cupboards from the Louis XVI period and style. Lombardy-Veneto, late 18th century.
The front of each piece of furniture is finely inlaid with a refined decoration that combines zoomorphic and vegetal motifs, according to canons dear to the lexicon of neoclassicism.
The central scene, made of maple essence, which contrasts well with the walnut background, is framed by a thick and double octagonal border in purple ebony and maple. On the four short sides of the octagon, eight-pointed stars appear, again made of maple essence, in turn framed by a complex thread. Inlays in the shape of bellflowers also appear on each upright of the furnishings, while the supports, in a truncated pyramid shape with a narrowing, are further refined by a thin thread that underlines their profiles. The top of the furniture is veneered in walnut feather, while the bottoms and backrest are made of solid fir.
Provenance: Bologna, Private Collection.
