The large painting evocatively illustrates the triumph against the dragon of Saint George, a noble knight of the Christian faith, whose astonishing adventure, full of symbolic meanings in the struggle between Good and Evil, has always been a favorite theme in art: in the period Renaissance style allowed the staging of both chivalric and religious ideals and values.
The analysis of the stylistic characteristics allows us to attribute his work to a painter marked by Alpine culture in the mid-17th century, although the pictorial stylistic features are more archaic and refer to Northern Italian painting of the 16th century.
“One day he arrived in the kingdom of Silene, plagued by the presence of a terrible dragon, whose destructive force could only be contained by human sacrifices. It was the "soldier of Christ" who killed the dangerous beast and saved the sovereign's daughter from the monster's jaws, and as a reward he wanted neither honors nor money, but that all the people converted to Christianity by receiving baptism."
In the painting Saint George, saint and knight at the same time, is caught in the moment of his triumph over the Dragon, while he impales him with his spear.
He is depicted according to traditional iconography, astride his steed, dressed in shiny armor and a crested helmet, while the iridescent red cloak appears inflated by the wind, enhancing the dynamism of the sculptural figure.
Secluded, on the right, is the princess, composedly in prayer and observing the hero in action with devotion; while behind her we can see a building perched with high walls to be protected from the dragon.
