The small sculpture entitled Venus and Adonis depicts the goddess locked in a tender embrace with her beloved. Adonis was a handsome and charming boy who dedicated himself to hunting in his free time. One day, while she was watching him walking in the woods, Venus was accidentally scratched by one of Cupid's arrows and in an instant fell deeply in love. However, the strong passion between the two aroused the wrath of Mars, the god of war, who, in order to get his beloved back all for himself, devised a very simple plan: he would transform into a wild boar and inflict a mortal blow on Adonis. . This happened. During a hunting trip the young Adonis met the animal, which actually disguised the appearance of Mars, which mortally wounded him. The cries of her beloved reached the ears of Venus who rushed to her bedside and tried in vain to save him, but Adonis, now dead, had no choice but to descend into the underworld.
Venus' desperation was such that the powerful Zeus, moved to pity, allowed the two loved ones to be reunited: every spring Adonis could return to the world of the living to re-embrace the much-loved Venus and spend part of the year with her; but, when the first cold weather arrived, Adonis would have had to return to the darkness of death.
The sculpture represents a moment of profound intimacy and tenderness between the two young people, the moment captured is that of a tender embrace where Adonis touches his beloved's face with his fingers while the goddess languidly abandons her head towards the lover's shoulder, in an intense game of glances.
