Indian Empire (1858-1947)
650x7 inch
The beautiful loom-made trimmings were produced in silk brocade woven with golden thread to create a very pleasant bi-chromatic effect with a dark colored background highlighted by elegant open flowers of turquoise, orange and ivory. The border comes from Benares (today's Varanasi), formerly the most important and prestigious center for brocade weaving in India. The precious Benares trimmings were made by Muslim men considered true masters of the textile art. The silk border, 6 and a half meters long, is joined in a single point and is in excellent condition.
