The furniture is veneered and inlaid in rosewood, bois de violette, cherry, mahogany, olive, boxwood and jacaranda. The lower part is mixed-line with three drawers separated by crosspieces and, on the sides, inlaid pillar pilasters. The gate has a refined inlay depicting a cartouche in different woods and thin foliate volute shapes in different wood essences. On the sides the movement of the flap is marked by inlaid pilasters that end in a curl. Inside, the flap hides five compartments, two drawers and a small sliding shelf. The wavy upper part has a central door inlaid in different woods to depict a splendid fountain with plant motifs and feral heads. On the sides, five drawers on each side and one underneath. The cymatium, with a broken gable, is decorated with curled volutes to center a turned platform and on the sides there are two secrets. Wavy hips and bracketed feet. Dimensions: 235x125x67 cm
The piece of furniture represents an example of the most refined Roman cabinet-making, both in the invention of the shape and curvatures, and in the refined and skilful use of the wooden essences that embellish it. Easy to place in the Roman production area, the classic flap system is recognisable, with an architectural body that still recalls seventeenth-century production and a rare but distinctive upper part is recognisable, with drawers and smaller in size than double-body furniture. of other areas. Due to its particular refinement it can be placed alongside the often cited Roman "burò" such as that of Palazzo Pallavicini, that of the Rospigliosi collection and that of Palazzo Odescalchi. Our piece of furniture can be attributed to the same workshop, since it is almost identical, as a folding chest of drawers with a lift in light walnut "with brown-red effects" dated 1720-1730 and published in G. Lizzani, Il mobile romano, Milan, 1970, fig . 230; page 137
