Description

Giuseppe Rambelli (Bagnacavallo,1868-1954), “Galant scene set in a park”, oil on first canvas. Dimensions: 65×48 cm. Excellent state of conservation. Gilded wooden frame present. Signed G. RAMBELLI lower left.

Painter trained in Tuscany at the end of the 19th century, he moved to Florence in the 1980s where he carried out his artistic studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and, subsequently, at Giovanni Fattori's Nude School. It is precisely the link with Fattori, and more generally with the great tradition of nineteenth-century Tuscan painting, which profoundly characterizes the art of Rambelli, who even in the advanced years of his career always remained within the framework of a traditionalist, free from contamination of the new artistic languages of the first half of the twentieth century.
Rambelli stands out most for his skills as a portraitist: he portrays aristocratic gentlemen, such as the Gamberini counts with whom he has a bond of friendship, but he also portrays ordinary people, from the girl who carries out household chores to the small farmer.
During the Florentine period he actively participated in the cultural life of the country, frequenting literary circles, where he had the opportunity to come into contact with important personalities, such as Edward Carpenter. In this period she was present in various Florentine exhibitions, but also exhibited in Romagna, Turin, Milan and Paris. On some of these occasions he was also awarded awards.
The fervor of these years dies down, however, after his return to his native city, where he takes refuge in the Torre di Traversara and chooses to live in a secluded manner. This does not mean he gives up his passion for art and enjoys portraying everyday images of local people in quick drawings. A rare artist, who in recent years has fallen into the shadow of critical oblivion, thanks to his undoubted technical abilities and the pleasantness of the subjects he uses, he has never lost the public's favor, as demonstrated by the flattering results of his works put on display. enchanted by the major Italian and international auction houses. We want to remember the beautiful anthological exhibition on the painter, held at the Civic Museum of the Capuchins of Bagnacavallo between September and November 2009.
