early seventeenth century
Measurements: 190 x 242 cm
Oil painting on canvas of impressive dimensions, of Flemish origin and dating back to the mid-17th century, depicting a still life with game.
In our opinion, the work can be attributed to the sphere of the Flemish painter Jan Fyt.
This author, in fact, is famous for his still lifes, in which he offers representations of game, including deer.
This animal is a rather recurring subject in his works, so much so that the painter has also carried out some studies on it.
In addition to the deer, a wild boar and a series of bird species are also depicted: Jan Fyt in fact portrays partridges, jays, woodcocks and many others over and over again, in compositions similar to the painting in question.
Even the woodland setting in which the scenes take place is typical of the artist, and the same goes for the pictorial style, which seeks realism and naturalism, as well as accuracy in the depiction of the various animal species and their characteristics.
