India - Mughal Empire (1526-1857)
19.5 × 14 × 14 cm
The elegant wine flask is made of bronze; an engraved stand supports the container which is decorated with 8 solid registers whose backgrounds are interspersed with peacocks and vegetal motifs. The chromatic effect creates a very pleasant tonal contrast between light/dark and full/empty, with a calculation of space that denotes great artistic skill.
The perfect balance between proportions and decoration suggests that the surahi belonged to a wealthy aristocrat of the time.
The decorations engraved on the entire surface are the legacy of the artistic expression of eighteenth-century Mughal India.
In good condition and with excellent patina.
