Gaspare Lopez (Naples, 1677-Florence, 1732). “Still Life with Melon, Peaches, Figs, Pears, Grapes and Bust of a Female Sculptor”. Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 78 x 97,5 cm. Twentieth-century re-lining. Gilded wooden frame with antique gold leaf, but adapted to the canvas. Upon careful examination with a Wood’s lamp, the painting does not show any noteworthy restorations or repainting. The work is accompanied by an expertise by Prof. Giuseppe Fiocco (Giacciano, 1884-Padua, 1971) written on the back of a black and white photograph depicting the painting and dated 19/07/67. The critical note reads as follows: "In this beautiful "still life" there is the evident legacy of the Belvedere, that is, that of the Neapolitan school that starts from the Flemish Abraham Brueghel. Added to this is a (..., a term that I have not been able to interpret) of the taste for landscape, in which nature is immersed and placed almost as a crown of a sculpture. An experience that only Gaspare Lopez had, who worked in Venice and Vienna".
Provenance: Verona, Private Collection.
