The work is a bust of Napoleon depicted with a highly idealized aesthetic that recalls classical Roman imperial iconography.

The facial features show the influence of the neoclassical models of the early nineteenth century created by the greatest sculptors of the period.

The face has a stern and solemn expression and the eyes are deep-set with a fixed gaze directed forward.
