We are pleased to present this splendid 19th-century oil on wood panel painting. The work bears a signature in the lower right corner, attributed to the French painter Adolphe Joseph Thomas Monticelli (Marseille, October 14, 1824 – Marseille, June 29, 1886).
The painting depicts noble ladies in 18th-century dress engaged in conversation outdoors. One lady in the center stands out; wearing a voluminous pure white dress with a matching parasol, she captures most of the light and serves as the focal point of the painting. Another lady, seen from behind, wears a striking golden yellow dress with a striking train. A lady in a dark red dress completes the group on the left, creating a strong color contrast with the white and yellow. The scene takes place in a wooded garden; on the right, a light-colored stone pillar or architectural fragment—partially overgrown—evokes the typical features of historic estate parks. The background is dominated by tall, leafy trees that open in the center, revealing a glimpse of bright sky and hints of autumn foliage in shades of orange and red. The artistic quality is excellent, characterized by a highly textured style with dense, rapid, and vibrant brushstrokes. The facial features and clothing details are not rendered realistically but are instead evoked through touches of pure color that create volume and dynamism. This is a pictorial style rich in movement, typical of the post-Romantic 19th century. A wonderful work that transports us to the carefree and pleasant atmosphere of 18th-century nobility. If you love lively scenes, you absolutely cannot miss the opportunity to add this painting to your collection. It is a magnificent work of art that will surely captivate your guests!
The painting is accompanied by a wooden frame that features an interplay of golden and brown tones that perfectly enhances the artwork.
