India - Mughal Empire (1526-1857)
Rectangular in shape, the magnificent marble panel is sculpted with three orders of lobed niches placed inside an arched frame. The two upper corners are decorated with trefoiled flowers. These panels were used to house night lights in the fountains of the palace gardens, evoking the mihrab, the niche which, inside a mosque or building, indicates the direction (qibla) of Mecca.
Mythic panel comes with stand.
