Description

This fine painting illustrates Mahāvīra, the twenty-fourth and final Tīrthaṅkara, seated on a golden throne within a white marble pavilion topped with a curved Bangaldar roof. The Jina is flanked by two princely male attendants holding fly whips and wearing crowns. The figures wear garments around their hips, thus identifying the painting with the Śvetāmbara tradition. Sitting in the foreground is a small lion, the distinctive symbol or knowledge (lāñcana) of Mahāvīra.
