1928
Created by the great Indian artist MS Nagappa in 1928, the life-size marble sculpture portrays an Indian nobleman and aristocrat decorated with numerous medals, Diwan Bahadur P. Somasundram Chettiar of Coimbatore.
The sculptor Nagappa inherited talent from his ancestors. During his career as an artist, in the first decades of the 900th century he portrayed English and Indian notables, governors and Maharajas. On the occasion of the Silver Jubilee, Nagappa created the sculpture of King George V, now at the War Memorial, who publicly honored him with the title Rao Bahadur, "honorary prince".
